A family gathered together for a family portrait session at California State University, Chico, on a very hot evening! This is the hottest session I have ever been on, but it was a successful night with plenty of pictures to document their time together. As you may guess, an evening in the heat is not an ideal time for children. Even with snacks prepared and water available, not all the children were happy at the same time.
The grandparents were very calm and did not mind at all that the children were not all smiles and happy for their portrait session. They both agreed that this will only help to document this moment in time. They were happy to have everyone together for a picture. When the children grow up, they may ask why they were upset and laugh about it; but this is real life. The crying baby in a picture can take any mother, no matter her age, back to a moment when her child did the exact same thing and did not cooperate. It is this moment and the family that came together that matters. It is not what clothes you wore, the location you chose, or who was smiling. Everyone was together and mostly everyone had fun!
Please take a look at model Grandma. She always had the perfect pose, angle, and smile. (Even with a crying grandchild!) She and her husband took some amazing pictures together. I hope to do the same with Farmer J one day.
I love looking back on this session, because this is what family is about. There were no harsh words, only love available, and lots of breaks! After this hot family portrait session, they went out to dinner in a very cool air conditioned restaurant and enjoyed dinner together! Hold your family close. We all need each other.
