Mackenzie and Matt drove up to Mackenzie‘s parents’ property on the outskirts of Willows. They knew that they wanted a sunflower field as a location for their engagement session, and they hoped that one nearby was blooming.  They had also scoped out some other beautiful locations on their own. Mackenzie is also a fellow photographer, and she had a good eye for what would work well for her with the gorgeous golden hour glow.  You can view more engagement sessions here.

How They Met

A friend had someone special she wanted Mackenzie to meet.  When Mackenzie arrived, it was actually the whole family; and she met lots of people.  Matt had been the one to originally want to meet Mackenzie, and he had asked his cousin to introduce them.  When Matt asked Mackenzie out for their first date, they spent three hours sipping drinks and never even ordered food.  They have been dating for over two years.

The Proposal

Matt put a lot of time and thought into his proposal planning, but the timing was just not working!  He tried to get Mackenzie to Seascape in Santa Cruz to propose to her, but the custom ring he was designing with her grandmother’s ring was not going to be ready in time.  He booked a last-minute flight to Hawaii, and the Coronavirus canceled those plans.  Matt then arranged a trip to Tahoe where he set up a faux engagement session of newly engaged friends for Mackenzie to photograph.  Once she was done taking pictures, the engaged couple offered to take some pictures of Mackenzie and Matt.  Matt then shared that they were not really there for an engagement session for their friends.  Mackenzie was puzzled until Matt dropped down to one knee and asked Mackenzie to marry him.  She said yes!

Mackenzie and Matt, thank you so much for allowing me the opportunity to document this very special chapter in your lives. You are only able to call each other fiancé for a certain amount of time before that title changes. The love you two share is easy to see by how you lovingly interact and get along. The sunflowers were the perfect pop of color for your joyful engagement session. Thank you for taking the time to do the research and track down the most gorgeous sunflower field.
