Last week, we took some spur of the moment pictures at a wheat field near our house. We thought it was just a grassy field until Farmer J inspected it and shared with us that it was wheat.  We were all a little surprised.  The big kids could not believe that a wheat field was growing so close to home.

Pictures did not go as I envisioned.  Please note Fish’s Belle dress under her pink dress.  I have learned that I have to pick my battles wisely.  I was hoping that the wheat would cover her skirt, but I learned quickly that she had to be picked up if we wanted to see more than just her head poking out of the grass.  I was feeling discouraged by the time the sun had set.  (We left the house before dinner time, but everyone was ready for some food by the time we were done.)  But once we got home, I looked at the pictures; and they were perfect. They were everything I wanted to capture and more.  B even took some pictures of Farmer J and me together.  Farmer J was so kind to join us minutes after he arrived home from work to allow me to get into the pictures.

Some days can be crazy in our household.  When I have the camera up to my eye, I am not expecting the silly face.  I may even encourage a smile.  But when I am going through their pictures and see their personalities come to life, I love those pictures even more.  These are the pictures that will fill my children’s annual picture books.  These are the pictures that they will love to look back on.  Farmer J, B, Yogi, and Fish, thank you.  Thank you for spending the evening with me in the wheat field.  The wheat field that everyone was afraid to initially step into.  The wheat field that allowed us to capture us being us.
